Shun Kawakami

One of my creative heroes is Shun Kawakami. Born in Tokyo in 1977 and well-accomplished in multiple design fields; his work appears to follow a recipe for success and that includes a desire to create a comfortable space and maintain a signature look across all media-types. Kawakami incorporates branches and plants into most of his work, applies primarily black and white schemes, limits his use of fonts, and utilizes large amounts of open space. This signature style creation is practical if the repeated design elements are appealing to viewers in the first place and in his case, I believe they are. The combination of some basic elements create an atmosphere in which the audience becomes a part of the work and that is a skill which I strive to achieve.
